I just realized how amazing this song really is??

I love when I discover older songs that I actually really love and never noticed before. Hmm. :)

I know. They sang this in Cincy and I forgot how good this is. That's whats so great about tour- the little gems that come up when you totally aren't expecting it. This and Cradle of Family in Chicago just were icing on the cake to a great tour season for me.

Pretty much the greatest song ever. Has consistently been one of my favorite SK6ers songs since self-titled came out. Others come and go...this one always stays.

I know. Plus, one of the songs has my name in it. Even if the song is written about "a not nice lady" (as Kit would say)- it still makes me smile.

yeah, i know. i still request it almost every time. i mean, it has my name in it, and i'm nice, so that negates the fact that it's about someone who isn't, right?

Definitely. It made me laugh when Kit told me not to worry the song wasn't about me. Always good to know

I mean this in the most non-offensive way possible, but how do people not get this reaction the first time they hear the song?

From the get-go, this is/has/probably will always be/ my favorite SK6ERS song. I mean, the song should seriously but subtitled. You Win (Amber in Song-form). Colleen, Catherine---am I right or am I right?

    I digress.

people are constantly changing - at least i am - and certain songs affect me differently depending on what i'm experiencing in my life at the time. when i was 10 i could relate to certain songs that i cant so much relate to anymore, and vice versa. and ive changed as a person alot in the last 3 or 4 years or so (i'm 22 - so basically from the time i graduated high school until now, when im nearly graduating college) so it makes sense that i find things in some songs now that i never saw much before.

    did that make sense?

    Completely.

You'd have to know me to really get my passion for the song.

Personally, I find myself to still appreciate interesting lyrics in songs that I don't personally relate to. I played You Win for one of my friends, just because she asked to hear something from the band I'm always raving about. Someone already brought up the line about slipping into a party...she was really impressed with it. She had no personal connection to it, but still loved it----and I love a good songwriter than can make you think, even when you've never been in the situation.

clearly none of us can accurately answer this question...

There's are a lot of songs, as a whole, that I can't relate to... But there's at least one line in most of his songs that I can. "Sweet Sophia", for example, is obviously not meant for anyone but, well, Sophia. But everytime he sings, "with a fierce disposition like the beat of a drum, you get hurt more than others, but you have more fun...", that line totally makes me think of just being a fan and going on tour.

Or in "I Know Why": "we could drive across the planet, I'll navigate if you pay gas, a cast of questionable characters, a troop of fools until the last...". Again, reminds me of tour and being with my friends (because now Andi calls us the Troop of Fools).

Stephen has a way with words, for sure.

hahaha yes Amber, your love for that song is pretty much unparalleled... I think I still have the series of texts from during your discovery of the song... went from something like "this is the most amazing song I have ever heard" to "why didn't you tell me about this band SOONER?!" to confessing that "You Win" made you less apprehensive about going to the shows that I totes forced you into while I was going to visit you....

sweet sophia (according to the anthology) is generally about loving someone so much that you would die for them. obviously sk wrote it about his daughter, but i think almost everyone can relate to it.

he obviously writes about his own life alot, so no, we dont relate to it literally, but its all open enough that if you experience anything remotely the same, its so easy to relate to.

and i agree chrissy, theres at least one line in every song (well im not sure, but there probably is) that i can relate to a little when i really think about WHAT its about- not the inspiration SK got to write the song. Sk6 lyrics are just easy to relate to, moreso than any other band, for me.
