Interested in learning more about SK6ers...

Well, first of all, here's a little story about how I became a fan of SK6ers... I've heard of these guys a couple years ago in the Hanson community. I never bothered to give them a listen because, I will admit, I'm one of those people who judges a book by it's cover... Or in this case, I judge a band by their band name. "Stephen Kellogg & the Sixers" just didn't seem like a name I would be interested in. I'm strange, I know.

Last year, I gave MoZella a listen and found that I really loved her music. I found out that she was opening for SK6ers at their show here in Philly last October. So, I got tickets JUST to see MoZella. Turns out, the day of the show, she canceled and I was stuck with these tickets. I tried to get rid of them with no luck, so my mom and I decided to go to the show, anyway. And boy, are we glad we did! We were SOLD. I've never laughed so much at a concert in my life. And when they broke out into their "decade of songs" skit, I died. I knew I had a new band to add to my "favorites" list. I got their self-titled album that night. We saw them again at World Cafe in March, then at Border's and TLA in October. We already have our tickets for the Tin Angel show, as well. Can't wait!

Hanson is my favorite band. (More like my passion in life.) I could tell you more about them than they probably could. And they're really the ONLY band I listen to where I could tell you about something other than their music. But SK6ers just seem like such cool guys. Unfortunately, though, they're not a very popular band. When I search for "Stephen Kellogg" on Google, most of the results are of an author from, like, the 17th century. *lol*

I just found out that Stephen has a daughter. That's the most adorable thing in the world. He did mention her on stage, but he was in the middle of a joke, so I never know whether or not to take him seriously. Turns out, it was true. Haha.

So now I'm just interested in learning more! Any other fun or interesting facts about the band?

One thing I would recommend to you is to go back and read some of the older issues of the Road Journal on the website. If you've got a fast internet connection, I think that a lot of the banter during concerts is a good way to learn about the band, and you can download those from archive.org. They take a while (hours) to download on average, but they're totally worth it.

SK's got two daughters, in fact.

The thing I think is so unbelievably great about the Sixers (besides everything that is apparent at shows) is the positive messages they send out. They're all about being proud of who they are... they don't have the patience for people who want to hold them back. And you can tell they've all been through enough that they can speak very frankly about life, and how they've dealt with it. You just don't get that from Soulja Boy.

haha very true. The best part about these guys is that they don't take themselves too seriously but most of all (which impresses me the most) they CARE about their fans. They honestly appreciate every record or t-shirt sold or even just coming which shows when they beat every person to the door to say hi and thanks... I think it's always kinda funny when they say "thanks for coming to the show" because I'm thinking "No THANK YOU for coming to Chicago!" and then that goes back in forth for awhile haha
On a little side note...I love how whenever you ask for an autograph they always sign but ALWAYS ask for your name...I don't have one cd or poster that's just an autograph it's always personalized "To Amy".
So next time you go to a show DON'T hesitate to just go up and talk to them! They are such chill guys it's like talking to a friend you haven't seen in awhile...dont be shy!

PS~ I love Hanson just as much! I liked the Pat McGee Band through Hanson and then through PMB I got to know SK6ers...funny how that works out huh? lol

I would definitely, definitely listen to live shows. archive.org has enough SK6ers shows to last you a lifetime. I have been trying to make my way through them for years.

In my opinion (but I believe that this is a fact), they are the best band on earth. All you need to do is listen to Stephen's lyrics to learn all about him. Besides being very nice guys, you will never be more entertained at show in your life, so I would definitely continue to see them live. I could not agree more with godsaverellogg; she put it perfectly.

But seriously, listening to those live shows on archive.org will fill you in on all you need to know. SK is the king of banter. You'll hear great stories, and you'll hear some of the best music you've ever heard.

Two daughters? Goodness gracious. Where are they all hiding? Haha. I guess I'm just use to Hanson and them always having their family around. And wow. You guys weren't kidding about archive.org. I just did a search and I can't wait to get started.

I definitely agree about the type of messages in the music. "Glassjaw Boxer" (the whole album) is probably one of the most inspiring things I've ever heard. Especially songs like "Milwaukee" and "In Front of the World". I first heard those two songs in March at World Cafe Live. I was really lucky to hear them when I did because that was during a pretty tough time for me... but those two songs really helped everything get better.

Their stage presence is amazing. Their concert is a guaranteed laugh. It's too bad that I've only been listening to them for a year now, but what a year it's been. I'm looking forward to catching up on what I've missed out on and experiencing more of SK6ers and their music.

This Kit fact is, in my opinion, second only to knowing that SK is Shania Twain's biggest fan.

Kit was a Tuba music EDUCATION major, lets not forget that important fact...for the fans who are soon to be teachers/teachers (like myself), we take pride in this fact. :) I also had no idea that Soucy had a masters in education until recently. Interesting.

Just remember this little SK6ers fact and you'll be ok: If you can't dance in your underpants, then you don't stand a chance.

I'm not hating on teachers (I was a teacher, now getting a PhD in education), it just sounds better if you say he was a tuba major. His parents once brought a large cardboard cutout of him playing the tuba to a show.

all i cn say about them, like others already have, they're the best band ever. i don't think you could possibly go to another show and feel more appreciated for being there, or more entertained. over the past few years, they've been exactly what i needed...through the happy, frustrated, and sad moments.

like marissa said, go read the road journals. you find out so many random facts...and you'll laugh a lot, too.

LMAO.. this new road journal... Boots is talking about a crazy fan who rammed into their tour bus, and says something along the lines of "after we got over the flattery... we had to get restraining orders."

And yeah, Soucy was a teacher, right? There was a classic photo of a young Soucy wearing a mesh shirt... where did that go?

I've been going to SK shows since I was a senior in high school (2000). This was back when the guys were all in different groups. They went to UMass Amherst together and it wasn't until 2002 that the group we know now was established. SK used to play solo (or with guest artists) at random parties and small cafe type places. The first time I saw him was at this kegger out in the middle of nowhere (Hadley, MA). When I was at UMass I got to see him play at the Ironhorse (Northampton, MA) a few times. Kit used to be the bass player for this local group, Travelling Matt--who'd play Wednesday nights at this bar (McMurphys); I wasn't 21 yet so I'd sneak in with a fake ID to catch them play. I think I love "Not So Lost" so much because I'm reminded of the times that I'd get busted and kicked out by the bouncers for being underage. Boots was in a jam band called Tuscan Groove that we'd go up to one of the dorm areas and see play. I think I've still got his demo cassette (that's right tape, not CD) floating around somewhere too.

It's been great seeing these guys come together and grow not only as musicians but as people as well. I tell family and friends that I feel like I've really grown up with them. Corny, right? But it's true. You go back and listen to Rain Summer, South of Stephen, and Buffalo and then listen to Glassjaw Boxer and it's really amazing to see the difference in style and sound to the music. I associate so many memories with their music--kind of like they're the soundtrack to my life...hahaha I'm such a dork.

Wow. You're really lucky that you discovered SK6ers in the beginning. That's awesome.

I got really mad at myself when I found out that SK6ers played a dozen shows at The Point in Bryn Mwar, PA. I started playing at open-mics there in early 2005. It was my favorite hang-out. If only I had known the band back then. It would have been so cool to see them on that stage.

I was on the website yesterday listening to all of the old albums. I'll definitely be picking up some more CDs at the show next month if they have them.

I still stand by South of Stephen as one of my favorite albums. It just hits the spot when you need something to calm you down and help you get through the hard times. I would love to see Mozella and Stephen do "Another Midas Story" live.

that picture is forever engraved into my memory but i wish i could see it again right now.

like everyone else has said - the live shows & the road journals are how you find out most about the guys. you can read some of the interviews they've done too.
and if you don't already have it, buy "the first waltz" dvd.

I have the DVD and I looove it. I've watched it several times this week alone. I just may watch it again tonight. *lol*

Here's a question I've been meaning to ask... What's the deal with Hollister!? I completely agree that Hollister bites and you'd never catch me shopping there, either. Haha. Stephen gave his little intro before "See You Later, See You Soon" every time I've seen them perform it. But what's the story behind that?

sk's intros are sometimes just (i think) more funny things that happen to him and he relates it to a specific song. so, i think the things he says about hollister are true...just not the true meaning behind the song. another example is when he used to dedicate my sweet charade to britney and kevin or rene and kenny or of course all of kit's wives.

Hahaha. Wow, I never heard that about "My Sweet Charade". I was thinking that he meant some snobby girl at Hollister once, then wrote "See You Later, See You Soon" about her... but then I was thinking that the song is too much of a love song for that. I was so confused. Haha. Either way, the way Stephen tells the story is very funny.

Stuff just flies out of his mouth... Like at Borders, he was talking about the Smurfs. I was like, 'Where the heck did that come from?'. Haha. I love it. It's like going to a concert and a comedy show all in one.

My favorite DVD quotes are "Boots is dyslexic, as it were," and "please welcome Kyle Riabko and his 18 year old balls." The DVD special features are essential, if you haven't gotten there yet.

Also, does anyone have a picture of Kit when he was rocking the ponytail circa 2003?

I feel like we should make a scrapbook.

WHERE IS THE MESH SHIRT PICTURE? It's been too long... tooooo long.

    Kyle Riabko loves Neti Pots.
SK had this hairstyle... for one day... on ESPN. I'll never forget it. To this day I can IM laura and just say "THE HAIIIR" and we can reminisce.
    Soucy's old. Like... a billion.
Boots is the hottest girlfriend imaginable - "Girlfriend as Pretty as Boots", "Dontcha wish your girlfriend was hot like Boots?"*
Kit can't stop watching Grey's Anatomy and has a secret crush on McDreamy.

Hey let's do that ridiculous lie game where you make up a ridiculous lie about the poster above you, except for the sixers!

Boot's favorite pickup line is "Do you floss before or after you brush".

    * this line actually caused me to go out with someone named Poof... I said that line to a friend of mine at Prom, my date (just a friend) overheard, though I said "Poof" and set us up. xD

It's... the hair. It was great. It was glorious. It can't be explained. I'll find a way to get a video online sometime...

    Now ridiculous sixerlie time!

Kit pretends he is his younger brother named Chester, just so he can go out in an argyle sweater vest and play backgammon the park on sundays without damaging his rockstar reputation.
