    Hey everyone
I've been trying to gather as much information about college as I possible can so I just thought i'd post and ask what everyone's college majors was, and if you were happy with it? Right now i'm a Humanities student but I think I may switch to Sociology for my last two years of school. I really don't know what kind of job I could get with Sociology though
Does anyone have any suggestions/information/regrets about college? Did it help with you career? Any info would be great.
    Thanks so much :)

I was Creative Writing with a speech minor. Not very practical :) i loved it though. i am glad i majored in something i loved, even if i'm not doing anything with it now.

sociology is fascinating, i think. you could go into guidance counseling, social work, or working for national survey companies. or, you could go to grad school for like archeology or something awesome like that :)

doubt any of that was helpful, sorry :) just do something you love. you dont want to regret spending all that money on something practical because you feel you have to. good luck!!

I'm an accounting major. It's a GREAT major to be in as far as the economy situation right now, because accountants will always be needed. I actually graduate in May, and I know the options on the job front are slim. The thing is, NO, I don't really like my major. I do like accounting, but I don't see myself being a CPA. I'm actually pursuing a job in management/accounting with a few firms in Nashville that do it for musicians. So in essence, I like accounting enough to do it when it's involved with something I love (music).

My opinion- major in what you would enjoy learning about most. You can get any job regardless of your major (well, with a few exceptions). What do you want to do? For example, my friend's fiance was an education major, decided he didn't want to teach, and is now working for BB&T doing financial stuff! As long as you have the degree, the actual major doens't seem to make that big of a difference. So I say study what you want to learn most about!

Thanks so much you two were actually extremely helpful :) !!
The advice to major in what you enjoy is really great advice :) .
I'm going to think some things over and then decide, right now I'm between sociology or communications, so we'll see!
Thanks so much again I really appreciate it!

im pretty much done school as of right now, with the exception of a 4 month work term/internship that i have to do before i can officially graduate.

when i do graduate, ill have a bachelor of applied communications- major in electronic publishing- which is like visual communications/graphic design. i can do alot with it and we're trained to do alot, but finding a job right now is hard and there isnt much available at the moment... but i'm sure ill find something eventually.

i did really like it all 4 years of school, though. im definitely a creative person and it always kept me on my toes... and i learned quite a bit outside of just design, such as multiple business-y classes, a writing/editing class, a law class, and then a handful of arts and science classes.

i think - ultimately - what i want to do once i save some money up is just start my own business up and market myself and get my own clients. i definitely think i have more of the personality to be a freelance designer rather than do some boring kind of graphic design work for a company i probably will have no interest in. that being said, if the freelance thing doesnt work, id like to work for a magazine or something in the art department... preferably a fashion magazine. weird, big dreams, i know, but i think its possible. somebodys gotta do it and i'm positive i could when i get a little more experience under my belt....

oh and if anyone cares... this is my online portfolio that i just made for a class this past semester - www.malarycloke.com

i made it at the end of november/december and i cant update it though so the intro kind of sucks and i want to change it, lol. oh well.

a communications degree is pretty well rounded, though, whether you get something specific (like i did) or not.

I'm majoring in Art Therapy with a minor in Digital Media -- so pretty much 2 things that no one has any idea what they are :)
I picked up the minor mainly because I need a graduate degree in art therapy before I can practice, so digital media is a mix of communications, graphic design, and photography (a.k.a. stuff I love)....

theres so many combinations of the same type of stuff nowadays... haha. digital media sounds like what i did...but less photography and more web stuff.

i forgot to mention that my degree changed this year into "information design" ...and it combined electronic publishing and technical communication, but the course is still pretty close. i could go back and take like a semester of classes and end up with the electronic publishing thing AND an information design degree, thats how similar it is.
