10/18-19/07...ended up in Boston

Thursday was a classic, fun show. I was hoping we'd get some new stuff, but it was a pretty standard setlist. The Red Sox won, as they tend to do when the Sixers play at the Paradise. I think that the rude people were perhaps weeded out of the crowd by the game, which made for a smaller, enthusiastic bunch.

Friday was a little out of character. With all due love and respect, SK was a little tipsy, and by a little tipsy, I mean a whole lotta tipsy. There were some misplaced lyrics, lots of hand gestures, and a version of Hearts in Pain that the Phoenix would have loved to review. Kyle, Kit, and Boots were all-stars, and it was still a great time. I think the mandolin was a great life decision, especially on You Win. The sold-out house was pretty much reduced to a camp sing-a-long during Sweet Caroline at the end of the night.

Quote of the day: "There are two things that I love more than anything else in this world. The first is Boston. The second is siring children." -- SK

i was really happy with the song choices for both nights. Diamond, You Win, Cabin in the Woods. I think the only song not played off the new album between the 2 nights was Why Are You Talking to Me?
I'm in shock that Thirteen wasn't played either night but then again, Kit does have a torn ACL and it's not the same without his moves.

The crowd was definitely better on Thursday night (like you said, the game weeded out the non-superfans). I just can't get over how rude some people can be.

I do love seeing them in Boston because they always look so damn happy (it is the greatest city in the world)... but I miss the smaller shows.

OH and i just remembered the Cat Stevens teaser! They must've been watching Harold & Maude on the bus haha.

Funny SK quote. He must be on a roll with those. At the Borders in Madison he was talking about how there were kids/infants in the audience. "I really like babies...and I'm pretty good at making them, too." Kids in the audience, plus his great aunt and her family. Funny stuff.

Glad the shows were great (friday night sounds....interesting?). Sounds like you had killer setlists. Isn't "You Win" live the best thing in the world??

Haha SK said the same thing at the Chicago show.

Also, why did they not not play 13 at any of my shows? It wasn't on the setlist in Madison and I was going to give SK a dollar if they really didn't play it. It's true. Ask Jen.

I think it's because people get pissed when Kit doesn't dance, and Stephen gets pissed when people get pissed.
Oh why they didn't NOT play it.... don't know.

Laura speaks the truth. I believe a dollar might have been offered to not hear Such A Way, as well....although I am not 100% sure on that.

People were freaking out about 13 at our shows. In Minneapolis people were yelling for "Goose" to dance, so they played it but Brian "danced"...and in Madison Kit DID dance (but of course very low key). Glad they are just leaving out for the time being.

He would've gotten a dollar for no Such a Way too, but I only actually got one out and waved it around before they didn't not play 13. If they ever don't play both of them, SK gets to meet my friend Mr. Lincoln.

I think the flaw this time was not informing SK of the monetary gain to be made. Next time, I'll tell him beforehand and we'll see how it goes ;)

I'll chip in for the anti-Such A Way campaign! We could really have some pull, i think.
I was kind of hoping for Thirteen so I could see Boots' interpretation of the dance.

I love there are more of us out there. Its a nice song! I just don't need to hear it as much as I do.

OK, so 13 was worth seeing in Madison when Boots "danced."

I am also anti-Such A Way! It was my favorite Sixer song, but I overplayed it so now I'm sick of it! I think my main problem with it is that people always yell out for it then talk during it, and that is the worst! Don't request a song then talk during it!

...When your moon hits your eye like a big pizza pie that's amore... on to the 50's...

(Confession: I live for the times when the Spice Girls' 2 Become 1 makes it in to the medley.)

I love seeing the guys in Boston. The crowd is always just a little bit more into the show then anywhere else I've seen them (New York, Pennsylvania, California, New Hampshire, Illinois, New Jersey, Maryland, Connecticut... the list goes on). I think Chicago and Northampton are two of the only cities that come close. Thursday was a tamer show, but had some amazing moments. But it was Friday night's show that will stick in my mind for quite some time. It was probably the best-worst show I've seen the guys put on. Saying that SK was a little tipsy is putting it mildly. Lyrics were lost, melodies forgotton, but in a FANTASTIC way that made the show SOOOO hillariously awesome. You would kind of guess SK was tipsy if you'd never seen him before, but to true blue fans--it became quite obvious he'd had a few too many :) Watching Boots and Kit try and keep straight faces was funny too. Like I said, the best worst show I've ever been to (in 5 years, and almost 100 shows). AMAZING!

But here's a funny side story. The next morning I drove to Burlington VT to work on their Habitat for Humanity project. Zero sleep, music blaring, going 95 to make it there on time. The guys were scheduled to roll in around 12 PM to work on the house and eat lunch with us. Turns out the band accidently left SK at a rest stop and had to turn back to pick him up. Seriously. How hillarious is that? True story.

HAHA! "I'm only the lead singer!!!" Almost Famous moment, anyone? That is hilarious. Were they still drunk from the night before? Its not like its a field trip with 100 kids on a bus...how do you forget someone when there are only 6 of you?

Ang - we have the exact same shitlist. Days is not on mine 100%, although it is kinda weird that I can usually sing the whole medley (aka knowing what songs he will sing in what order). But man, I live for that "we don't give a fuck yeah, cause its just a good day" line. As long as that stays in, it will never go on my list. On a positive note about songs we hear every single concert....I will never tire of Anthem of Our Discovery. Ever. I can't see myself tiring of See You Later, See You Soon either.

I'm with you on Anthem for sure!

You know it kinda makes me wonder about the thinking behind having so many albums as the 6ers do, and how you go out every night and play the same stuff over and over again. Especially with a new album out.

I think I love Anthem so much as well because SK puts out the classic rock star moves in it too. When he goes into "We don't give a fuck cause it's just a good," he does the whole slamming his foot along with the guitar. Or the jump kicks along with the riffs. You just can't help put throw your fist up and jam out.

I'm a big ol sucker for Guitar and Tambourine. I wish they played it more.

Maria has been climbing my ranks as a song I don't think I could ever get tired of hearing live either.

I was wondering what kind of shape SK would be in in Burlington. I guess that's the downfall of having a giant bus with nooks where you can hide, rather than the van where you're all piled on top of each other. I wonder how long it took them to realize?

I'm gonna agree with Such a Way being overplayed, but to be fair it's pretty much guaranteed to hook all new fans in the audience. by the end of the song all men, women and children are wishing that they were that 'girl from Greenwich'.
and if I ever attend a show where they don't play Days, I will storm out in furious rage and maybe even knock something over. unless, of course, they play Way She Is- but that is my only bargaining chip boys.

i can honestly do without 13... it's a good song, don't get me wrong, but there are other songs i'd rather hear. sk got pissed in both st. louis and ann arbor when he repeatedly told people (nicely, i may add) that goose could not dance, and they sill wouldn't shut up. he put it really well when he said "if that's the only reason you came, the fucking door back there." i didn't expect everyone to know about it ahead of time, but when he says it nicely twice, take a hint.

See, I couldn't do without Thirteen or Days. They do play a lot of the same things, but that's what makes it crazy when I can accurately predict their setlist before shows, and my newbie friends think I'm psychic. We're not pyschics, we're fans.

But how I love it when they throw in random covers, or older, less played, but just as rockin' songs. If you're there, SK, let's just say I wouldn't be unhappy to hear some Buffalo! =]
