the golden ticket winners were totally random.
just like Charlie. a random little kid, totally
deserving of the glory of being put on MY guest list
at any single Sixer show this fall.

But you wingnuts know that you get that very same
thing when you volunteer to help me at a show with
merch...
how fun.

but seriously- the new album is my favorite.
AAAAANNNDD the last line to Infront Of The World
is tattooed between my lungs.
AAAAANNNDD 4th of July was written in VA in this AWESOME
field under a magnolia tree- there were fire flies ALL over
the place. hence "lightening bugs light up all across the southern sky"

Apparently all of those stupid AP Lit classes in high school and college paid off if you guys think that my theory makes sense!! Again, that is just my theory, and sometimes it is more fun to have your own interpretation than listen to someone's idea!

I appreciate the series of history lessons on the Wailing Wall, they should really teach more about that area of the world in college and high school.

I don't think anyone mentioned the history of The Wall: it's is all that remains of an incredibly ancient temple. After the temple was destroyed, the foundation was supposed to have been left as a visual kick in the teeth for Jews, who instead have historically rallied around it, viewing it instead as a reminder of G-d's presence throughout their persecution and struggles. This fits with the explanation gdsaverellogg relayed.

Jews also believe that G-d pays some special attention to the Wall, so it's a really good place to have your prayers heard by Him. You might be familiar with the image of prayers written on pieces of paper and left in the cracks of the Wall.

Those lines always Really Affect me (the caps are needed) as a Jew because the desperation and isolation they belay fits in with the history of the Wall and its special place as a sort of intercom to G-d.

Keep in mind, of course, that Stephen wasn't necessarily aware of all of this when writing the lyric, though.

(I don't know much about the Wall as a Muslim holy place, but the Wikipedia article someone else linked to, in all of Wikipedia's infallible glory, does say that Muslims also regard the Wall as holy. Evidently, the term Wailing Wall is derived from the Arabic name for it. A quick search of the Encyclopaedia Britannica does agree that it is significant to Muslims.)

Just my two cents, but it seems to me that the reference in the line "Wailing Walls, how could you give up on me?" is referring to the idea that the person in the song has chosen to withdraw himself from friends, family, etc...In the song, he is coming to the realization that he needs someone other than himself, even though he created the situation, and is looking for the cabin to fill some void but is realizing that the solitude he has isn't enough to sustain him anymore. The Wailing Wall in Jerusalem is a place of refuge for people of faith to pray and feel close to God. By comparing the cabin to the Wailing Wall, the character is feeling like this personal space that once was a place for refuge for him to seek solitude isn't providing for him the way that it once did. The line "Wailing Walls blacker than you've ever seen" is probably just there to further emphasize how alone and desperate the character in the song is feeling.

Again, I don't really know, but that is my good ol' college effort at trying to dissect the song...Do with it what you wish...

At the Acoustic Cafe shows (12/30), SK seemed to allude to the idea that it was Kirsten, and that they had been driving through the mountains and saw this cabin that was alone with nothing really around it. He said that she never tells him to write about a particular topic, so when she said he should write about the cabin, he took it seriously and the result was 'Cabin in the Woods'...Such a wonderful song!!

If I remember correctly, at the Club Passim show last year--the one where they previewed the entire GB album, SK mentioned that Cabin in the Woods was written for a friend of his. They had been driving by this cabin lodged way up on some mountain and she asked him to write a song about it for her. Or something to that extent. Am I making that up? Does anyone else remember that?

Anyway right now I'm loving Hearts in Pain. This album really surprised me. It hits home in so many ways. Can't wait for the fall tour! 2 nights in Boston are gonna rock

Aye, I didn't know that either. Clearly I am missing the religious references, since I was really stuck on who the "Agnes" was they were referring to in the song, only for it to be brought to my attention it is probably saint Agnes.

don't worry, i didn't know what the wailing wall was either :/ but he says wailing walls, perhaps it's not a direct reference.

Oh, and I like that one reviewer's comment about the "Yankee Sixers" If we all work together, we can make that Soucy's nickname, okay guys?

It hurt me so much to hang up my 2006er tour poster 'cause Souce had written "Let's GO METS!" on it. I think calling him a Yankee Sixer would be fantastic payback.

and Sarah, the Wailing Wall is the remaining wall of the Temple in Jerusalem....Lauren could explain it a lot better than me, but it's basically a Holy shrine to muslims and jewish people.
