I am not sure how the nominations are decided. I just got the link in an email from an old high school boyfriend of mine, who happens to be up for Best New Act in his band Kid:Nap:Kin (who knows...). I, too, was surprised to see Mr. JM receiving nods for his work considering his lack of a connection to Boston, although he is originally from Fairfield/Bridgeport, CT. Here is a link to their voting policy, which irritates me because the public vote only accounts for 1/3 of the ultimate decision.

I voted too. I have also voted in years past, and Mayer has never been on there, ostensibly, because he neither was nor is from Boston, save a year at Berklee. In theory, the Sixers are not from Boston either. I wonder how they determine the nominations.

I'm sure a lot of you have already picked up on this, but thought I'd post the link so that we can all vote for our favorites in the Boston Music Awards. SK6 is nominated for Local Song of the Year for "Sweetest Goodbye," Mark Erelli (of First Waltz fame, and a lot of other great stuff) is nominated for Outstanding Folk Act of the Year, Josh Ritter and Matt Nathanson make a lot of appearances on the nominee list, as well as Guster and John Mayer. Follow the link! http://contest.goombah.com/bostonmusicawards07/
